There may be times when your Lightburn software windows get way out of whack or you may have some other issue that is causing Lightburn to not work in the way you want. Instead of becoming frustrated and tearing your hair out, I’m going to show you how to reset Lightburn back to factory settings.
READ THIS, before you reset to factory settings!
Before you go resetting everything to factory settings, just be aware that if your problem is that your windows are out of whack, there is another way.
For example, as you can see in the image below, my windows are all in different spots. I have the Laser window at the bottom and the Library at the top and my Cuts & Layers panel is hidden behind a tab. Not what I want at all!

And in this example, I even have a window sitting out in the middle of nowhere.

There’s an easy way to fix this, without having to reset everything.
Just go to the top menu and click on the Window option and then Reset to Default Layout, and that’ll put everything back where it belongs.

Let’s Reset Lightburn to Factory Settings
But if that’s not your problem or if you have other problems and you…really want to do a factory set reset, I’ll show you how to do that.
WARNING!
Bear in mind that everything is going to be reset!
All your devices are going to be reset, so any lasers you had connected are going to be cleared out of the software
And, all of your art libraries and settings are all going to be cleared.
As long as you’re happy with that, here’s what you need to do.
- Go to the top menu and click the File option.
- Click the option called Open Preferences Folder.

- It will bring up that preferences folder saved on your computer and all the files that are in it.
IMPORTANT: Before we go any further we need to close Lightburn.

Once Lightburn has been closed all we need to do is delete the files.
Select them all, right-click and select ‘move to bin’.
I’m on a Mac, so that’s what my option is, but you might have delete on Windows or something like that. So you just want to delete them.

Now reopen LightBurn.
And there you go, you are now back at Lightburn’s default setting and ready to start from scratch.
